The foundation and the construction of the Künstlerhaus already, had been financed through private donations in the middle of the last century, especially by the aristocracy and the financial world. In the former financial plan a division of the financier into "donator" and "founder" was planned according to the amount of the contribution. In remembrance, the names of all these donators and founders can be found on a plaque in the Ranftlzimmer, where their portraits are still exhibited today. In October 1997, in order to follow this tradition, a new association ("friends of the Künstlerhaus association") under the chairmanship of Dr. Erhard Busek was constituted to support the numerous activities of the Künstlerhaus on a financial and social basis.
The communication between artists and promoters of art should be stimulated by events such as lectures, guided tours, discussions among artists, visits to studios, round-tables on economy and VIP evenings.
