The Passage Gallery, thanks
to its exposed position next to the subway passageway, its surrounding open-air
forum and large glass front, offers a unique spatial situation which is also reflected
in the program - it sees itself as a semi-public space at the interface between
high and low culture. The Passage Gallery, therefore, is open mainly to young
artists who use it as a media forum, an experimentation lab, and a projection
surface. Its lounge-like appearance also lends itself well to live events. Further
cooperation projects with academies and universities are scheduled for 2002.
Within the framework of a cooperation with different Universities of Arts the
k/haus offers art students the opportunity to use the k/haus passage as a projection
surface. The project is launched by four classes of the Linz University of Arts:
Painting and graphics: 14 - 24 March 2002
Experimental design: 4 - 14 April 2002
Space & object: 18 - 28 April 2002
Textile: 2 - 12 May 2002
From the 14th to the 24th of March students from the Painting class will show
works on the subject "das unbedeutende Eck/the insignificant corner". The project
will be managed by Andreas Karner, lecturer at the Linz University of Arts since
1998. Opening: 14 March 2002, 6 p.m.
DJs: Les Stereos Insects, FM4
The class of Experimental Design will be represented by A.S.A.P., a group of students
who -under the motto "chain reaction"- will bring about the effect of a chain
reaction by working with different elements and materials to use the place as
a projection surface (for presentations or music). After the opening event on
the 4th April an "open work-space" will be set up for four days by the A.S.A.P.
group. (5 - 8 April, open from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.)

As a first sign of life of the course of studies "Space and Object" now chaired
by Elsa Prochazka, a group of students under the guidance of Pepi Maier will improve
the rather unattractive atmosphere of the Künstlerhaus' passage-gallery by means
of minimal changes to show pedestrians and the surrounding area in a favourable
light. |
